10 AI Workflows That Actually Help Students Learn

The right AI workflow turns a tool into a tutor. The wrong one turns it into a shortcut that erodes learning. Here are ten workflows we teach students.
Socratic drilling: ask the AI to quiz you one question at a time and never reveal answers. This builds recall the way flashcards do, but adaptive.
Explain-back: study a topic, then have the AI ask you to explain it back. It flags gaps in your own explanation — the highest-signal feedback available.
Active recall schedules: paste your notes and have the AI generate spaced-review questions on a schedule you set.
Concept analogies: for anything you struggle to visualize, ask for three everyday-life analogies. Novel analogies stick.
Distractor analysis: for multiple-choice practice, ask the AI to generate plausible wrong answers and explain why each is wrong.
Past-paper prediction: give the AI your exam topics and previous questions; ask it to generate likely variants at the same difficulty.
The rule: never let AI do a step you can do yourself. If you cannot reproduce the reasoning, you have not learned it — no matter how good the answer was.
